In the 2017 event, Lewis Freeman and a team of staff from the Crouch End family business, Dunn’s Bakers, ran the 10k for the first time!! Lewis completed the 10k course in an excellent time of 42 minutes 38 seconds, heading up a team of 5 staff runners. They then finished their run with a well-deserved delicious Dunns jam doughnut – along with all the other 1000 adult 10k finishers.
But this is not the first time this local family Bakeryhas been involved in the event. Dunn’s have been generously providing delicious doughnuts to all race finishers EVERY YEAR since YMCA North London set up this event in 1991. Back in 1991 Dunns baked doughnuts for the 10k finishers, when there were only 50 adult runners, and have been doing so ever since! Their staff will work through the night to bake over 3000 doughnuts for the adult and child finishers this year!
Lewis said “We are so proud to be the supporters of this well-loved community event. We know many runners sign-up just to get their post-race doughnut ! The team at Dunn’s and I love being a centre point of the day, and I would urge everyone, running or not, to grab a picnic and head for the park!”
Fran Johnson, YMCA North London Race Director said, “The post-race doughnuts from Dunn’s Bakers are one of the race traditions that makes us unique, and the runners love them! Having such a strong partnership with Dunns is something we are grateful for and proud of, and is very much in keeping with our aims to strengthen ties within the local community. We can’t thank Dunn’s enough for their continuing enthusiasm and support of YMCA North London
Our aim is to raise funds to enable members of our community to thrive. Your support allows us to provide much needed services for some of society’s most vulnerable groups, especially young people, through our housing, childcare and health and wellbeing services. Firstly, providing them with stability and support, then enabling them to achieve their goals of independence, health and wellbeing.
